Goa University to implement UGC guidelines Zee News Panaji, Feb 11: In a facility that would encourage foreign students to visit Goa for education, besides providing quality education to the undergraduate students, the Goa University is all set to implement University Grants Commission's (UGC) guidelines.
"We are introducing semester system and credit system in all our undergraduate colleges as a part of restructured undergraduate courses from next academic year," Goa University Vice Chancellor Prof P S Zacharius told reporters here today. Prof Zacharius said that the annual mark evaluation would be divided into two semesters and all semesters would be taken into consideration while giving graduation certificate to the student. "The semester system with continuous assessment and semester end exam motivates the student to study throughout the year," the vice chancellor said. The Goa University will also implement credit system through all its 22 colleges imparting education to around 20,000 students. "Each course offered in a semester is assigned a certain number of credits depending upon the quantity of work required of a student. Only when a student passes a course, they will earn the credits assigned to that course," he said. "In absence of credit system, when the students go abroad they are asked to repeat all the courses," Zacharius said. The credit system would also help the foreign students to come to Goa to have admission for short courses. "Currently, there are hardly 15 to 20 foreign students in various colleges for the entire graduation courses. We are targeting the students for short courses," he said. Bureau Report
