House condoles Shikre's death BY HERALD REPORTER Panjim, FEB14 -- the House today unanimously adopted a motion condoling the death of Janardhan Shikre, former Member of Parliament who died on December 24, 2005. The motion was moved by PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar. The late former MP was remembered as a great social worker and freedom fighter, who contributed to Goa's political movement. Meanwhile, Dr Suresh Amonkar today raised an issue of increasing accidents in his constituency owing to overloading of mining trucks and over speeding of vehicles. Dr Amonkar also alleged that the police in the area were hand-in-glove with the truckers and no action was being taken against unabated violations. The Pale MLA pointed out that there were increasing number of accidents in the areas from Dharbandora-Amona-Sanquelim and drew the attention of the House to a recent accident in which of a school student was severely injured. "The overloading of mining trucks is also causing severe dust pollution," he said and urged the government to take cognizance of these problems. He apprehended that if the government showed apathy to the problems, that people would come on the streets in frustration and there would be another Saleli in Pale constituency. -- Peace be with you!
