Parrikar raises a barrage of questions BY HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, FEB 16 — Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar raised several issues pertaining to poaching in Netravali Wild Life Sanctuary, sewerage system in Panjim, bamboo cane smuggling, corruption in recruitment of policemen etc. Speaking on the motion of thanks to the address of the Governor, Parrikar said the sewage plant at Patto is old and is virtually discharging "shit" in the river. The government should be sensitive to this issue and put up a new plant, which will only cost only a few crores, he said. He also suggested that from the state-of-the-art sewage plant commissioned last year at Tonca, the water recycled, which Parrikar described as cleaner than river water, should be utilized properly instead of releasing it in the sea. Parrikar said the government should stop poaching and bamboo smuggling and tree cutting as well. Making allegations, he said the government is not acting on complaints. He said he had sent a letter to the Chief Secretary Mrs Kiran Dhingra complaining of irregularity in police recruitment but there was no reply to his letter. He said, he would go to the central vigilance commissioner. Recruitment rules have been changed mid-way through a small correction in the newspapers, he charged. The Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane asked the Opposition Leader to give him the complaints he is raising hue and cry on. Parrikar however, said he was not doing so as he doesn't have trust in the government. -- Peace be with you! Gabe Menezes. London, England
