Sky bus plan mooted for Shimla
Source: IANS.

Shimla, Feb 19: A few years from now, tourists may be able to get an
overview of the picturesque ranges in this Himachal Pradesh resort from a
sky bus - if adequate funds are raised for the project.

Government officials said they had received a proposal from Konkan Railway
for setting up a dual compartment sky bus circling Shimla's downtown area
and the outskirts.

"Konkan Railway has sent us the design for the proposed 25-km project
costing Rs.12.5 billion," said the official not wishing to be named.

Engineers of Konkan Railway made a detailed study of the hill station and
found it feasible for the project. The 25-km railway track will be laid nine
metres above the road surface and two sky bus compartments will be able to
move together on the tracks. There is also a possibility of connecting this
sky bus to nearby resort towns.

With a population of around 175,000, Shimla is a round the year destination
for domestic and foreign tourists but traffic and parking space are a major
constraint for holidaymakers.
