The Mob Mentality. 1.With utmost respect I beg to disagree with Philip that the Naval aspects of Dabolim must be given the "heave ho" because thats your view and "the view of other Goanetters! (remember some who disagree with you might not have expressed themselves)Also recall the classic historic event where a mob expressed itself in favour of crucifying a man.This historic mob had gone beyond the "blue yonder" Mere numbers and opinion of bigoted people is not helpful at arriving at the truth, as TRUTH itself is MULTIDIMENSIONAL.
2.In this connection I am reminded of my visit to a CLASS "A" military training Establishment more than two decades ago. Painted there prominently in red on one of the DISPLAY Boards was the famous exhortation of a famous American President which read " The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war" Surprisingly , scrawled below carefully though irreverently, perhaps by a student was added " BRAINS SAVES BOTH, SWEAT AND BLOOD IN PEACE AND IN WAR." "(An Indian Commando)" 3.Noticing that the scrawl was not repainted over by the military authorities, I was led to marvel at the tolerance and intellectual integrity of the Commandant, who had ever so gracefully and in gentlemanly fashion conceeded the point to the unknown author of the scrawl by an act of magnanimous ommission of not repainting it over. To my mind he truly fitted the description of AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN! 4.Hitting out irresponsibly-- as many Goa Netters have most unfortunately done-- at our very own Defence Forces,knowing fully well that the "men in uniform" by virtue of their code of discipline cannot respond through the media, really does not bode well or commend itself to a forum which is pitched at making a positive difference to Goa. 5. Can we try to drop our regional biases and agendas of private aggrandisement which try to masquerade as "public good" or "Goan Cause" ??
