Near-miss accidents rose 40% in 2005 Posted online: Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at 0159 hours IST NEW DELHI, FEB 21: The government on Tuesday said near-miss incidents by planes rose 40% in 2005 as additional flights and an increasing number of airlines strained the capabilities of the air traffic controllers. As many as 21 so-called "air miss" incidents occurred last year, compared with 15 in 2004, civil aviation minister Praful Patel said in a statement to Parliament. As many as 13 such incidents took place in 2003, he said. >> ------------ How about urgently relaxing military controls over Indian civil aviation both in the skies and at civil enclaves (like Dabolim) to avert what seems to be foreordained -- a horrific accident due primarily to congestion. The dithering by defense is too shocking for words.
