Provisional nod to run primary classes in govt buildings withdrawn NT Staff Reporter Panaji Feb 21: The government has withdrawn the provisional permission granted to various school managements to run primary classes in government premises and asked to hand over the physical possession of schools along with assets taken over for running the school with effect from April 22, 2006, the last day of current academic year. In all 22 primary schools were handed over to private management in 2001, soon after the Bharatiya Janata Party formed the government. The school buildings were leased out to the managements for a lease of Re 1 per year, for a period of 5 years, on a condition that the government reserved the right to withdraw the permission. The director of education today issued notices to the managements of all the schools stating that the government has now decided to cancel and withdraw the provisional permission granted to various organisations and directed them to hand over the physical possession. The deputy directors of educations of various zones have been directed to take possession of the school buildings, while the assistant district education inspectors have been asked to provide details of students studying in these schools to be accommodated in nearby schools. Meanwhile, the president of North Goa District Congress Committee, Mr Gurudas Gawas has hailed the government decision and complimented the Education Minister, Mr Luizinho Faleiro, and the director of education for taking over the government buildings allotted to private parties. -- TUMCHE AXIRVAD ASSUM.
