<"As usual the carnival floats did their rounds yesterday, and there are the usual dances etc. I was watching the floats on the TV, it was relayed live. What I noticed was that in many floats, the joy and fun of carnival was missing, the people in the floats were participating for the money I guess ! Anyway, some of the floats were good, and many were pathetic !>
Yes, there may be a problem of screening the floats for quality including humour, music, and dance. This might also reduce the strain(?) on the young dancers if the length of the parade is shortened a bit. Too much repetition of tribals, fisherfolk, skeleton masks etc. There also needs to be better sequencing in terms of not allowing too much time between floats sometimes. The crowds of spectators seem to be getting bigger each year. They spill over onto the parade route and make the whole thing a bit unrulier than it should. But, net-net, its quite entertaining. Its far better than having some communally tinged processions in other places.
