with kind regards, Arjun Halarnkar Interactive Session with Prof. Lehman B Fletcher, on "World Inequality and Poverty in an Era of Globalisation" on March 11, 2006 at 5:30 pm at The International Centre, Goa, Dona Paula. Prof. Fletcher is the Professor of Economics Emeritus, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, US and presently a Visiting Faculty at the Centre for Latin American Studies of Goa University. Prof. Fletcher has specialized in economic and agricultural development of developing countries. His research area includes studies on agricultural and food planning and policy analysis. Prof. Fletcher studied at the University of Florida and the University of California and joined Iowa State University as assistant professor in 1963 and has supervised more than 150 masters and doctoral degree candidates in the University. He has also been a Visiting Faculty at Universities in Canada, Hungary, India, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Thailand and Ukraine. His talk at ICG would focus on the recent developments in WTO, its implications on the developing economies and issues related to containing the rising disparity between the people in developing countries. In a career spanning four decades, Prof. Fletcher has lead many international teams under the aegis of USAID to study agricultural policy planning and analysis to many developing countries including Central America, Egypt, Nepal, Panama, Pakistan and South Africa. He has also worked with international organisations like the World Bank and the Ford Foundation and private firms specialising in international development and contributed his expertise and experience.
