What can one say about the police in Goa? Almost every crime regardless of context seems to see the arrival of those hapless police dogs that lead them into the the blue horizon and nowhere else. Are Goan Police really interested in resolving crimes such as the vandalisation of crosses and the tracking of terrorist activities. If they were, than they'd be out there interviewing every Gaunkar, Fernandes and anyone else they can lay their hands on, in an effort to gather information about the crime. They'd be offering rewards for tips and leads that comes in. Loyalties are cheap in India and can be bought for a price. They'd be busy forming networks, going undercover, infiltrating groups known to be fundamentalist in their outlook. Do we hear of any such efforts on their part? No. Because the truth of the matter is these underpaid and undernourished, lathi carry clowns have no interest in resolving crime. Their only interest lies in recuperating the bribe they had to pay inorder to get the job in the first place. The rest of their time goes in issuing challans to senior citizens who perhaps have forgotten to don their helmets for the day, drinking chai at Kamats and contemplating how to harass hapless women such as Carla Gonzalves, who up until she came in contact with the Man From Srinagar, was probably responsible for nothing more malicious than spreading gossip about Teudoline across the garden fence. Now, according to the police she is to be "interrogated" and charged with housing a terrorist. Come off it. If they had any courage of conviction at all, they'd round up all the Kashmiri carpet traders who are busy selling hashish under the carpet, and have them interrogated for links to terrorist outfits. Not our Carla!! So such is the fate of Goa, a State in a state of anarchy. Run by corrupt puppets and policed by incompetent stooges. Carvalho

Most of the traders of yesteryears and who have their trading outlets in the New Market area hail from Comba. Many of them have however shifted to far off Vidyanagar or Aquem and now settled in Apartments or sleek bungalows.
