XIIIth GOA Rolling Trophy Goa Maroons, Bombay Boys, KGA and Santos in semis
Goa Maroons, Bombay Boys, Kuwait Goans Association (KGA) and Santos S.C made it to the last four in the XIII edition of Goan Overseas Association Rolling Trophy, sponsored by Bassem International Trading Company (Charles D'Sa) on 17 March 2006. The tournament is played under the auspices of the Kuwait India Football Federation, at the Soor Grounds. Paradiso made up mostly of youngsters and in their second season on Soor Grounds were no match for Bombay Boys who took control of the game after initial hiccups. Derrick opened the scoring for Bombay Boys in the first half and Prakash added the second. Paradiso's best chance came in the very second minute of the match when Bombay Boys goalkeeper Adrian pulled off a reflex save in a goalmouth melee. The match was officiated by Derrick Gomindes, assisted by Julio Cardoso and Jose Colaco. The adjoining ground saw Santos edge out Holders Navelim Youth Centre by the odd goal in three. Santos drew first blood in the 11th minute when Britto failed to collect a free-kick and Augustine was on hand to slot in the loose ball. Their joy was short lived, as Americo restored parity with a powerful shot, a minute after the restart. Thereafter, both teams went in search of the winner but it was Santos who were guilty of poor finishing. Videsh of Santos finally found the back of the net, in the 3rd minute of the second half of extra time. The match was officiated by P.A. Anthony, assisted by Pillai and Adolf. A strong A.V.C Sports Club was shown the door by hosts Goa Maroons in the next quarter final match of the day. In a lively encounter, A.V.C was all over Maroons in the first half and it was goalkeeper Antonio of Maroons who brought off a couple of outstanding saves to deny Braulio and Ronnie. Maroons however came back strongly in the second half with Kumar, Sudakaran and James controlling the midfield, however neither side could find the net and the result was finally decided by the tie breaker. Reji, James, Julio and Kumar scored for Maroons while only Braulio, Ronnie and Molvito converted for A.V.C. The match was officiated by Manuel Dias, assisted by Fasil and Tony D'Cruz. In the fourth match of the day Siemens sponsored Kuwait Goans Association (KGA), stunned DHL with a goal in the very 3rd minute of play through Ashton. Receiving a through ball from Luciano, he neatly lobbed the onrushing DHL keeper, Pillay. DHL were not able to rebound from this early set back and were at a loss for game moves. KGA continued to capitalize on their opponents errors and raid their citadel. Ashtson slotted in his and KGA's second in the 3rd minute of injury time to send his team into the semifinals. The match was officiated by Eric assisted by Johnny and Pillai.
