Mess boy Sunil Rodrigues recounted Fr. Ferrao asked him to prepare extra food
for 2
guests who would arriving later on that Friday night. Around 5.30pm Fr. Ferrao
rushed to his friends Alcino D Silva who runs a whole sale stores near the
church
and purchase some rice and later bought some vegetables, fruits and eggs from
the
Silva's Kiosk at the market - GT
D Silva told GT that he asked the priest 'being Friday in the lent season, how
come
your are buying eggs ?" The priest replied that he was having some Hindu guests
for
dinner. After a long chart Fr. left the place 7pm.
Antonetta D costa, a local resident, informed GT that the priest on Friday
phoned
her asking for coconuts as he require them to cook food for the guests "I sent 8
coconuts for the priest" she said.
The two guests whose names figured on the priest diary as Amit & Manish.
The mess boy said that Amit even had a bath and Fr. Ferrao offered him a towel
and a
new pair of shorts and a T-shirt. That night there were vegetables, lady
fingers,
'Rosse',rice and omelets for dinner. GT
(GT).. it is gathered that the priest who occasionally had a small drinks at
dinner,
served the beers which he had in stock. He is said to have offered a peg at
dinner
to the mess boy, who informed that the guests had one bottle of beer each and
later
went to bed. ....he claims that having taken the drink he felt fat asleep at
around
midnight and only awoke next morning.
Previous mess boy Praveen Miranda (26) who is presently working as a waiter at
Goa
Palace was brought to Maina police station for questioning..he recalled that the
priest was getting no of visitors. GT
Sachin Fernandes said that the Parish priest visited Sirsi chung along with him
on
January 13 for the feast of Infant Jesus. Fr, Ferrao stayed there 3 days at the
local Parish House and would have his meals at my house, Sachin added. GT

Both confessed to the crime.
According to DIG Mr. Mishra, Fr Ferrao in the middle of the night went to their
room
to enquire whether they wre comfortable or not and was returning to his room,
when
the duo followed him and Manish started asking him about a job opening, Fr.
Ferrao
told Manish that it was not the time to talk about the job but to sleep.
Suddenly,
Manish jumped on him and Amit gagged him with a pillow when the priest started
shouting for help. Fr. Ferrao picked up a kitchen knife in self defence but
Manish
overpowered him and stabbed him till he died. The accused confessed to being in
a
drunken state when the incident took place between 12 - 1 am, DIG said. NT

Admit to killing and say it was under influence of alcohol.
When asked what could be the motive, the DIG said "during the investigation
Manish
had confessed that he was too drunk after consuming beer offered by the priest.
He
said ..the duo was not used to drinking and the two bottles they had on the
fateful
night intoxicated them.
The cook who was fast asleep in the room had earlier claimed that he didn't
hear a
single sound during the entire episode. The DIG also said both the accused were
fully coperating in the investigation.
To a question, DIG (Mishra) replied that there was no other motive, as made out
by
some people, behind the killing, other than the 'drunken stupour' as confessed
by
the accused. The examination clearly revealed death by asphyxia and stabbing,
DIG
said.
What led to the murder (based on the confession to DIG) H
- Manish come to Goa in Sept 2005 in search of job.
-Starts working in a transport company.
-He is not happy with the job bcos of low salary.
-Meets Fr. Ferrao in a Margao garden sitting sadly on a bench and thinking
about his
lowly paid job.
-Fr. Ferrao assures him help in a getting a good job.
-After this chance meeting, Manish meets Fr. Ferrao on 3 0r 4 occasions in
Macazana
until March 17. Every visit the priest treats him well.
-om March 17, he comes to Macazana with Amit Sukla in the afternoon to convince
Fr.
Ferrao on the job.
Fr. Ferrrao reassures him and ask them to come in the night.
-Manish and Amit take the last bus and travel to Macazana.
-Fr. Ferrao gets dinner prepared for the two. They have dinner together.
-since it is late in the night, Fr. Ferrao asks them to sleep in the adjoining
room
and leave in the morning.
-Late in the night Fr. Ferrao goes to check whether they are fine.
-When Fr. Ferrao is returning to the room, both follow him. Manish demand to
know
when he would get his job.
-A discussion ensures and turns into a argument.
-all of the sudden Manish pounces on Fr. Ferrao, who falls to the floor and
starts
yelling for help.
-Amit jumps and gags Fr. Ferrao with a pillow.
-Fr. Ferrao chances upon a kitchen knife nearby and gets defensive.
-Manish removes the knife from Fr. Ferrao's hand stabs him over and over between
12-1am.
-Both leave the place not before locking the door of the cook and throwing the
knife
in the bushes outside........ H

"We were frustrated, so we killed him"
DIG said "Fr. Ferrao died due to asphyxia and stab wounds" He also said it did
not
look like a planned murder and the accused committed the heinous act in
frustration
and under the influence of alcohol.

The police also taken finger prints on the beer bottles, DIG - H
DIG, IT was not a planned one but it happened on the spur of the moment. "we
have
already taken chance prints from the whisky bottles and other utensils used by
them"

PLAIN LOGIC DILUTES ALCOHOL THEORY -GT
Nothing that the police has said about the modus operandi and the motive behind
the
murder of Fr. Ferrao seems to add up. Here's why ? Team GT investigate:(with

BEER THIS
DIG stats that in a drunken state the accused duo attacked the priest and
strangulated him to death. But what is pertinent to note here is that a bottle
of
beer has 'alcohol content less than 5%vv' Definitely, one bottle of beer
wouldn't
make a person to go an the rampage. Further, the two men had dinner around
9.30pm,
while the priest was done to death around midnight, which is enough time to
soak out
the beer effect.
CUTTING EDGE:
Hall and a dining room separate the priest's bedroom from the kitchen, where the
knives are kept. The police claim that during the scuffle between Manish and
Fr.Ferrao, the priest picked up a kitchen knife to defend himself. So did Fr.
leave
the room, walk across the hall where the killer duo were sleeping, go into
dining
room and then enter kitchen to get knife ? Or was the priest sleeping with a
knife
in his bedroom ?
DRIVING FORCE:
The police claims that the accused got a lift from a truck and reached Margao
railway station. One wonders how they got a lift in the wee hours, which dropped
them at the station. Further, eyewitnesses reveal that around 3 am a car was
heard
moving out from near the cemetery. Manish is also said to be an employee of a
transport co. Did he call a friend for help or were they just Lucky to get
truck at
3 in the morning ? (see edit on A8)
RIGHT TRACK:
They did board Mangala Express. And a quick check by GT reveals that there were
three quick purchases of tickets in 3 lots within 1 minute before the train
arrived.
Moreover, it is also learnt that on Feb 11, two seats were booked in the name
of Ram
S and Ram R. The two travelled in the S7 compartment and were of the same age
as the
accused. If they are the same persons, then one thing is certain:the murder was
pre-planned.
TIME OUT:
The accused were immediately flown to Mumbai and later to Goa after after their
arrest in Nagpur. Now, when did DIG Mishra interrogate the accused ? They wre
brought to Panaji in the evening and soon thereafter a press conference was
held in
the city. Moreover, source also reveal that the police team that nabbed the
accused
in Nagpur, were strictly warned by SP Shekar Prabudessai not to ask any
questions to
the accused.

...the alcohol theory also seems ludicrous for variety of reasons.
Let's face this without jumping to specifica conclusions. It is very likely
that the
murder was cold blooded. pre-planned murder, the motives of which are either not
known or are being hushed up by the police and the church.
Let it be made very clear that it is entirely out of diference, propriety and
sensivity towards the deceased, that a lot of information about Fr. Ferrao's
habits
and lifestyle is being withheld. Information that could specifically lead to the
motive of the murder. And the motive isn't as simple as frustrations at a job
not
being granted. You don't kill for this.
The fact of the matter is that getting to the truth of the murder may be short
while
away. But the irony is this case is that while getting the correct information
and
motive behind the murder may be easy, the police and the church may not brazen
themselves up to disclose it ?
Sadly, no one really wants to talk about whay Fr. Ferrao was so brutally killed.

..The recent murder of Fr. Ferrao is even more disturbing news. That he has been
done to death in a cold blooded and barbarous manner sends shivers down my
spine.
Your path-breaking investigations seem to say now that it was a premeditated
murder.
There are also reports that it seem to point finger at the priest and to his
erratic
behaviour, as having led to the unfolding of the events that took place that
night.

hushed up
by the bumptious key stone cops, who time and again commit glaring goof ups,
much to
the chargin of the ever so eager reader who yearns for the plain truth.
It would be in the fitness of the things that the tru facts ar ascertained and
made
public so that one could avoid the ghost of skeletons tunbling out of the
cupboards
at a later stage.
While it would be pertinent to observe that DIG saab and his men did a
commendable
job in nabbing the accused, it has left a bagful of mixed feelings in the minds
of
the Goan public.
In this context, the beer theory deserves special mention. Try gulping this. It
just
does not swallow.
