Re: "Goan Kokno" - An exchange of e-mails on Goanet.

I rarely write on this forum as this forum is used by people to wash one
another's dirty linen.
I am not sure what the code of ethics, if any, of Goanet is. However, I
think it is my duty
as a Goan to comment on the exchange of e-mails regarding "Goan Kokno"

I am dismayed and disappointed to read the exchange of e-mails and to see
our Catholic brothers hiding
behind a 'petticoat'. Do we Goans hide there???

Let us not twist and turn (we Goans and as a matter of fact most of our
Indians are famous for that).

I recollect during my upbringing in Goa that people referred to 'Goan Kokno'
as someone who does not know as much as a Catholic Goan (Voh Kokno, Kaim
nokoh!)
I had several Goan Hindu friends who owned Jewellery shops in Goa and there
was not a
day that I referred them as Goan Kokno while there were others who used this
terminology on
them and I, for sure know that they use this as derogatorily.

We should desist in addressing our Hindu friends in Goa as 'Kokno' and I
would like to be
the first one to apologise to all Hindus of Goa on behalf of some of my
friend who used the
term as is. History of Goa shows, that Hindus and Catholic/Christians have
lived a peaceful life and
we would like to see this continue.

In saying the above, good on you Kakodkar, Manoj and all our Hindu Readers,
you are our brothers
and sisters in Goa. Apologies once again.
