Goa kickstarts 'Knowledge is Power' scheme Panaji: Goa has kickstarted its 'Knowledge is Power' scheme, under which television sets with Direct-to-Home (DTH) facility is being provided free to panchayats, old age homes, orphanages, socio-cultural clubs and municipal councils in the state.
The scheme, launched by Congress president Sonia Gandhi during her visit to the state last month, began yesterday when Member of Legislative Assembly Jitendra Deshprabhu handed over DTH-connected TV sets to sarpanches (village heads) of nine panchayats of Pernem taluka, which is about 30 km from here. The village panchayats covered under the scheme, implemented by the Department of Information and Publicity, are Caznem-Amerem-Porescodem, Tuem, Virnoda, Keri, Paliem, Arambol Torxem, Varkhand and Casarvarne.
