I really wonder what the police pay-packet is like.
Perhaps he was lonely, but more likely I guess, he was
owing someone some favours which he could not deliver.
I have been told that during Parrikar's time,
hawaldars were being recruited apparently with no
kick-backs involved - at least that was the general
perception at the time; however, the reality was that
there were indeed kick-backs, with one chap in Mapuçá,
I hear, having paid as much as Rs. 75,000 to a then
well-connected politician to get him the job. I
wonder how much that cost has risen.
Inability to pay debts is one major reason for
depression leading to despair, at least to my way
thinking.
Cure? Well, getting rid of the "sharks" and "keeping
the b..s honest" is the only way. Tehelka, where are
