Priest Murder Case : What others Say?

Day 15, nothing reported except two letters to the editors in NT which are
partly
quoted in the end below.

from popular 'Stray Thoughts' columns (http://goanobserver.com/)
HOME MINISTER, POLICE SHOULD COME CLEAN ON THE PRIEST MURDER.
People are not very impressed with the police version of how & why the Macazana
priest was murdered.

...late on tuesday night, I got a sms which I traced to a member of clergy.
The sms
warned me not to 'fall Prey' and believe RSS rumourmongers trying to tarnish the
name of the catholics community at large in the priest murder case episode.

'We are not entitled to judge others preferences and activities'. It shoud be
obvious to our readers what the sender meant by 'others'.

The church, in its own interest, needs to investigate and get to the truth. Why
did
the priest prefer to employ boys from Sirsi as mess servants ? Why was he so
anxious
to organise jobs for the two young men from UP ? what was his relationship with
the
accused ?

Unless the church thoroughly investigate the matter and establish the truth
there
will continue to be speculation on the relationship between the priest and the
accused.

CERTAIN QUESTIONS NEED TO BE ANSWERED Says Glen Mendoca (Aquem,Margao)
....letter to the Editor columns....
1. There is practically no movement of trucks even in the nearby Curtorim
village
forget about the remote Macazana. How did the duo get a lift on a truck that
too at
3am up to the Margao rly stn ?

2. Why the delay in recovering the knife the main evidence to be used in the
court?
Is paper work and other formalities more important than recovering the most
important piece of evidence ?

3. Are the duo naive that they will proceed all the way to Nagpur in the blood
stained clothes used in the murder ?
Will they not discard them on the way ? Why then have the police gone all the
way to
Nagpur to recover the clothes ?

R C Soares, Fontainhnas, Says..

...Additionally, if the altercation was due to the alleged offer of job, it is
obvious that at that unearthly hours the priest would have been able to do
precious
little in the matter. so why the attack ? It is all too evident that there must
be a
more sinister reason to do away with the priest and the investigating officer
should
go deeper into the real cause of the gruesome act lest they go scot free.
=====
TIME TO DISCUSS SECURITY..says Daniel F De Souza (Vasco)

..most churches do not have any organised security system. The parish council
should
play a pro-active role in taking immediate measures to acquire the services of
reputed security agencies and install surveillance system...
A stitch is time saves nine.

Ensuring the Security of our Priests - Writes Tomazinho Cardozo

... it is high time that the parishioners come together to serve the priest.
Each
and every parish has a parish youth association. The youth of these
associations,
with the guidance from the elders of the parish, I feel, must draw up a plan to
accompany the priest in the church during night time in turns. The company of
the
youth during the night time will help destroying the sense of unsecurity
amongst the
parishes today....

LOOSE TALKING COPS MAY WEAKEN FR. FERRAO'S CASE - GT Editorial.

...the alcohol theory also seems ludicrous for variety of reasons.
Let's face this without jumping to specific conclusions. It is very likely that
the
murder was cold blooded. pre-planned murder, the motives of which are either not
known or are being hushed up by the police and the church.

Let it be made very clear that it is entirely out of difference, propriety and
sensitivity towards the deceased, that a lot of information about Fr. Ferrao's
habits
and lifestyle is being withheld. Information that could specifically lead to the
motive of the murder. And the motive isn't as simple as frustrations at a job
not
being granted. You don't kill for this.

The fact of the matter is that getting to the truth of the murder may be short
while
away. But the irony is this case is that while getting the correct information
and
motive behind the murder may be easy, the police and the church may not brazen
themselves up to disclose it ?

Sadly, no one really wants to talk about why Fr. Ferrao was so brutally killed.

=======

Let the truth come out - Dr. F Colaco, Margao.

..The recent murder of Fr. Ferrao is even more disturbing news. That he has been
done to death in a cold blooded and barbarous manner sends shivers down my
spine.
Your path-breaking investigations seem to say now that it was a premeditated
murder.
There are also reports that it seem to point finger at the priest and to his
erratic
behaviour, as having led to the unfolding of the events that took place that
night.

Another letter from Sebastian Mascarenhas, Siolim

Obviously, there is more to it than meets the eyes as the matter has been
hushed up
by the bumptious key stone cops, who time and again commit glaring goof ups,
much to
the chagrin of the ever so eager reader who yearns for the plain truth.

It would be in the fitness of the things that the true facts are ascertained and
made
public so that one could avoid the ghost of skeletons tumbling out of the
cupboards
at a later stage.

While it would be pertinent to observe that DIG saab and his men did a
commendable
job in nabbing the accused, it has left a bagful of mixed feelings in the minds
of
the Goan public.

In this context, the beer theory deserves special mention. Try gulping this. It
just
does not swallow.

PROBING PRIEST'S MURDER: I by Christine Paes, Navelim.
...The murder needs to be probed through an agency like the Central Bureau of
Investigation as the reports appearing in the press about the priest death and
involvement of the two youth from UP sounds a little fishy. I have a feeling
that
someone is trying to protect the real criminals and the story about his death is
being cooked up. I hope the Chief Minister will order a CBI probe and let the
truth
be known.
=======

PROBING PRIEST'S MURDER -II by Glenda Viegas, Benaulim.
..each day the reports seems to contradict the previous report and the way the
police got hold of the criminals leaves one thinking whether all these reports
are
true?
Did the police really catch the criminals in such a short time in an unknown
place
and that too when the criminals were unknown to them ? Will the higher police
officials without any fear investigate thoroughly this crime and let the people
know
the actual truth ?...
