A.R. RAHMAN MEGA MUSICAL EXTRAVAGANZA IN KUWAIT.

7th of April 2006 is the date set for the Musical Show of renowned musicial maestro A. R. Rahman who is known not only all over India but all over the world. He is an idol of big populace who are crazy for his musical performance. And when I say big populace I must confess that Goans are also his fans in great number. We must admit that by being in Kuwait we get lot of opportunities to witness and watch big shows and mega events which normally we Goans do not get a chance to see back home in Goa. Kuwait is an international place and being so those who are in Kuwait can easily get opportunities to witness international shows and events. A. R. Rahman has already captivated minds and hearts of many of the Goans. Today I had a visitor at my place who is a well known musician and solfist and back home in Goa till he left for Kuwait 6 months back he was a Music Teacher playing 4 instruments, his name is Rabindra D’Pietro younger son of well-known Goan novelist and musician Bonaventure D’Pietro. According to Rabindra D’Pietro, “A. R. Rahman is just a fantastic musician, he does on music what Maradona and Pele used to do on the ball with their left and right feet respectively. I feel very happy within 6 months of my arrival in Kuwait I got an opportunity to see live concert of my favourite A. R. Rahman.” When I asked further, “what is the specialty of Rahman’s musical prowess?” Said Rabindra “ Rahman introduction of local and traditional musical instruments into his band is just unexplainable. With these types of musical instruments our Indian and traditional instruments are reigning over all other instruments”.

Just like musical art is inherited into the blood of Rabindra D’Pietro from his father who two years back dazzled Kuwait Goans and other Konkani people by playing 3 blowing instruments that was applauded fabulously by the audience at Indian Arts Circle Funaitees so also musical art was inherited into A. R. Rahman from from his musically affluent family including his father since he started playing Piano at a very young age. At this age he accompanied and toured with the then renowned Maestros. There is a saying “if you want to become genius in music, you go to Vienna Music Academy or Trinity College of Music in London”. Hence, thru his hardwork and genius, he got a scholarship of the prestigious Trinity College which gave him lot of encouragement. India confers on its renowned citizens very many prestigious awards for those who excel in different fields; one of them is musical art. Recently we know our own Goan brother and renowned singer/composer/director and playwright M. Boyer the darling of entire Konkani world running from Goa-Mangalore, Bombay, Kerala and other parts of India and ending in the expatriate world all around the globe was conferred by the Government of India the prestigious award “Padmashree” which he received on wheel chair in Delhi as he is ailing with sickness from the hands of our President Abdul Kalam, so also A. R. Rahman was awarded Padmashree Award by the Government of India in 2000. Besides this Rahman also received innumerable awards at national and other levels, the most important was the National Award for the best Music Director for composing music for the movie called Roza which was a super hit. This was the first time ever for a debutant. Besides he won 17 Filmfare Awards.

During the era of Soviet Russia when Brezhnev and his politburo was ruling the country, ABBA went to perform in Soviet Russia and while going there they took one plane load of their musical instruments and other accessories. That was the magnitude of ABBA. In the same way A. R. Rahman and his 70 member troupe will carry a heavy load of musical instruments along with them. His troupe will consist of musicians, singers and other artistes who are all set to entertain and mesmerize the audience on Friday the 7th of April 2006 at Qadsiya Sporting Club, Hawally, Kuwait, starting at 6.00 p.m. and ending at approx. 11.30 p.m. The Gates will be opened at 3.30 p.m.
