Suicide bid: ailing constable dies

A 30-year-old police constable, Rajaram Adkonkar,
attached to the Goa Reserve Police Force, Altinho, Panaji,
who attempted to commit suicide by consuming rat poison
and was undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College at
Bambolim, expired this afternoon.
The constable tried to consume Rattol while he was at his
residence on Saturday. Police sources informed that after
consuming poison, the constable attempted to commit suicide
by jumping into the river from the Zuari bridge. He was spotted
by the public and brought to Agacaim police station.
The police informed that the constable was later brought
to the GRPF camp at Altinho and shifted to Goa Medical
College Hospital, Bambolim for treatment. Police said that
the constable did not regain consciousness and hence his
statement could not be recorded.
However, the police officials denied that he was not granted
leave and stated that leave was sanctioned for 45 days.
