This is in response to various feedbacks received - some asking me how I get all
this time, whether I am working or not, whether I am married or not, whether I
have
family or not, whether I have other social life or not, whether I am using
Company
computer or not and so on..
====
I left Goa about 13 years ago...
I left Goa very much against my wish.
One of the reasons why I had to leave was that I felt, I was tied in with some
thing
for over 8 years and at that time, I felt, escaping Goa was the only solution..
Leaving Goa on economic grounds was never been my main reason..
I NEVER WANTED TO LEAVE GOA (and hence I visited Goa up to 5 times a year)
I NEVER WANTED TO LEAVE MY MOM (who died all alone)
I NEVER WANTED T0 LEAVE MY JOB (I was working for reputed refrigirators mfg.
Co.)
I NEVER WANTED TO LEAVE MY FRIENDS (I had many, most of them blood sucking
friends)
I NEVER WANTED TO LEAVE MY DOGS (I had 3 - Alsatian, Duschund Haund & a local)
I had many friends in UK some of them were very close to me whilst in Goa, so
close
( and so blood sucking) that they usually come at stay with me/house for days..
Strangely, when I was in UK, none of my friends wanted to know me..no meetings,
no
phone calls..nothing. In fact, when I tried to contact them over the phone, one
of
my friend's wife always said 'he is out' or 'he is in the shower'.
I felt all alone, working long hours and come home late. I lived in a small box
room
Rent 33 pounds per week. No TV* first one year just small radio listening to 24
hrs
Sunrise Station asian/bollywood music all the times.
I felt home sick all along, spent hundreds of pounds towards phone calls to Goa
(That time BT charges were 1.90per minute which is now as little as 4p/minutes
from
others and BT about 45p/minute)
No one used to call me from Goa that time (13 years ago) as it was very
expensive to
call UK Rs.60 per minute i.e.Re.1 per second (the same is now about Rs.6/minute
BSNL)
I could do anything to get news from Goa (or India), I even remember picking up
'Times of India' from the rubbish bins at my work place after making sure no
one
around sees me. Indian Newspaper, sometimes came as offload from Air India
which was
one of our Customers- Catering.
I used to get Herald and Navhind Times direct to my home for about one year. 7
days
papers (rolled packet) the postman used to keep outside my house door. It took
7-19
days to arrive i.e. up to 19+7=26 days old news papers, some times, two weeks
packets arriving same time.
Some times packets missing and some times found soaked outside due to rain
water.
No, I did not have Computer that time, so no Internet etc.
I only bought my first PC* about 8 years ago.
For the first 2/3 years, I was not very familiar with the Internet, although I
was
with AOL 16pounds STD per month with about 100 minutes free per months then
extra
charges for excess hours/minutes so I used it very sparingly yet I used to pay
up to
25pounds per month. Unlimited usage dial up was very expensive (now as little as
10pounds) and broadband was not existed that time.
I always felt there should be some thing for Goans living abroad like a TV
Channel,
News website, News group for NRI Goans etc etc.
I always thought some one should do some thing about it..
One day, I said to myself, why I always expect from others ? What about me ?
Why not do what I can ?
So, here I am.
I love this thing so much that I felt this is what I wish to do during my spare
time
and this is where most of my spare time goes. In school times, we had two
compulsory
subjects and third one being optional i.e. English, Hindi and optional being
Marathi/Konkani/French etc. Similarly, in one's life there could be 3 parts i.e.
compulsory being Job and Family the the third optional being one's hobby like
Music/Garderning/Pubs/Friends etc etc
As my optional subject, I opted for this.
And I am quite happy with it and that's what counts. (Thanks to you all).
I can also see there are a few such people here and one can easily count them
like
1,2,3.. Let us not discourage them.
Let me tell you here, no one can make everyone happy same time. E.g 90% people
may
be happy and 10% may be not or the vice versa this is because what is good for
you
may not be good for him.
'Sweet Jelebies are my favourite but it could be your poison if you are a
diabetic'.
At the same time, I do admit that I may not be very good at this but trying my
best
to be good.
I must thank you for being very understanding and putting up with me all this
time.
Once again, I thank you for all your support.
*Note: I bought my 14" TV about 12 years ago and soon bought VCR each costing
199
pounds but now one can get 20" TV and good VCR both for just 99 pounds. Strange
but
true. Again, my PC cost me 1,300 that time (about 8 years ago) but now one can
get
the latest package for less than 1,000 pounds.
