Santosh Helekar says: "No innocuous belief, practice or tradition of any culture is worthy of scorn or of special treatment."
Aristo Observes: I totally agree with Santosh's views. Special emphasis on the word innocuous. If the practice or tradition (enlightened or not) is not harming anyone directly or indirectly, why does it bother certain people. Many people who have contributed to society (which I consider higher than enlightenment) still follow these so-called unenlightened practices. Sure, there were practices like sati which were rightly abolished, and there are still some harmful practices (dowry, etc) that still exist today, which should be discontinued. For that matter, some People For Animals activists may think enlightened Christians who eat ALL the meats are not so enlightened, as these practices cause harm to animals. But Christians believe that God put animals on earth for us to feed on, so my point is; Respect others beliefs as you would expect others to respect yours. I don't know why so many participating goanetters are fixated on Theism, Atheism & Agnosticism, and why one needs to SCORN one another's belief or DEFEND one's belief for that matter. These are personal choices. The moment you start debating about which is better, it amounts to indirect Evangelism. I find Evangelism (in all forms & of whichever faith) offensive, and I proudly wear a T-shirt which says EVANGELIST: EVIL'S AGENT (its anagram). So I hope that we can end this discussion here, and that my response is not followed by any juvenile comments, accusations, and unproductive statements, as I am so very much expecting from certain goanetters. Regards, Aristo. _____________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list. Goanet mailing list ([email protected])
