PWD minister favours bridge linking Divar
MAY 3 - The idea of a bridge linking the island of
Divar to the mainland mooted over a decade ago was set
in motion on Saturday, when PWD Minister Sudin
Dhavlikar announced in Divar that he had given his
consent to the long-pending proposal.

Mr Dhavlikar said the total length of the bridge is
only 300 metres apart from the approach roads.
I will depute a team of engineers within 10 days to
select an appropriate site for the bridge. After the
selection of the site, soil testing and other related
formalities will begin, he told Herald.
Earlier, he laid the foundation stone for the
underwater 250 mm OD HDPE water pipeline to Divar
across the river Mandovi in the presence of Cumbharjua
MLA and Transport Minister Pandurang Madkaikar, at a
function at the Piedade ferry jetty.
Residents of Divar have been facing water shortage in
recent times, as consumers receive water only on
alternate days.
With the laying of the 8-km long underwater pipeline,
the need for daily water for the residents will become
a reality, informed Mr Dhavlikar.
The work of laying the pipeline, which has been
tendered for an estimated Rs 3.71 crore, will commence
immediately and will be completed within six months,
he added.
Transport Minister Pandurang Madkaikar said the
pipeline is exclusively for Divar island and
therefore, the water provided to through this pipeline
will be utilised for the residents of Divar.
Others present on the occasion included Navelim-Goltim
Sarpanch Adelia Menezes, Sao Mathias Sarpanch Tulsidas
Kundaikar, panchas and residents from the island.
