Teotonio,
With respect, unless I am totally mistaken, you were one of those sarcastically opposed to material on Iraq/Iran appearing on Goanet. Indeed, I may even be tempted to find your post on this point in Goanet archives. However, be that as it may, I have known a few Goans in Iraq. The latest one was met by me in Goa two weeks ago. He was employed, first in Jordan and then in Iraq in Iraq's hospitality/hotel section. He recounted to me, in great detail, how the situation in Iraq was so dangerous that he fled without payment due to him. He obtained an exit ticket (on the pretext of a death in the family) from relatives in Goa. He also informed me of other Goans who were desperate to leave but having been unpaid for months, have had no funds to get out of that "hell-hole."

Our Mario Goviea, of course, believes that all is well in Iraq with flourishing street markets etc as per his contribution to another site. But then, as Victor Rangel once said, Mario lives on another planet!

Subject: [Goanet] Are there Goans in Iran?

I have been missing the discussions that had become a fixture on this
forum about the invasion of Irak. Though long-drawn they have petered out
and fortunately did not last as long as that invasion! I am surprised about
the silence on this forum about the threats of military action against
Iran! Or for that matter about the entente cordiale between Bush and
Manmohan, taking India out of Iranian gas supply. Is perhaps any threat of fatwa discouraging the Goanetters from venturing with «satanic verses»? Does
anyone know if there are Goans in Iran?
