Its a sign of good news to all Goans in Goa and overseas Goans around the
globe that centre had finally agreed for direct flights at Dabolim
International Airport Goa.
Finally Dabolim International Airports expansion work which means New
Terminal on the northern side, known as North and South Terminal, same looks
as London Gatwick Airport with Four (4) Aerobridges. It can handle more
aircrafts simultaneously. The new infrastructural work would start from the
next week as informed through some source. Pray that every goans dream come
true.
The present parking bays for 4-5 aircrafts at the airport would also get a
new face which can house minimum 10 planes including atleast 4-6 A-320s and
ATRs.
Its also notified that the nearby housing colony at the Dabolim
International Airport would be shifted at an alternative proposed site by
the state government of Goa. Its also been a good sign to the residents who
occupies this housing colony.
But one could not understand that when the Indian Navy does become the owner
of the LAND which Dabolim International Airport stands? And how does Indian
Navy agree to provide Goa Airport Authority only 9 acres of land for
enhancing parking bays and also constructing parallel taxiways at the
Dabolim International Airport? Which means Indian Navy will not move from
the Dabolim International Airport.
Before considering and deal with the Indian Navy, Goa and Goans should take
in writing that
1. Indian Navy should move to Sea Bird Base near Karwar.
2. Indian Navy should not intervene and allows all civilian aircrafts to
land at the airport (means 24 hours landing rights) and not 6pm to 6am.
3. Otherwise Indian Navy will again say that the Dabolim International
Airport belongs to them, as they are saying since the liberation of Goa.
(Almost 45 years since 1961)
4. Indian Navy should hand over all the land which they occupy at the
Dabolim Aiport.
5. No future intervenes at the airport by the Indian Navy.
If the above points agreeable to Indian Navy, they should sign a MOU and the
infrastructural work shall commence thereof.
According to Dr. Wilfred Dsouza Goa Dabolim International Airport would be
upgraded into a first class airport with modern facilities and smooth inflow
of passenger who can travel directly in or out from Goa with less paying
airfares instead traveling to Goa via Bombay, Delhi etc. More direct flights
will be introduced, such as direct flight from Sharjah-Goa, London-Goa,
Frankfurt-Goa, Kuwait-Goa which is already in the pipeline. Also there more
airlines like Air Arabia, Emirates, Virgin, etc. will introduces soon.
It is understood that centre agrees Dabolim International Airport is the one
and only airport in Goa forever and no MOPA airport will be constructed.
Therefore, several businessmen, MLAs and state ministers will be the big
losers. MOPA site can be re-used as a dumping area for garbage, so that the
money invested by the businessmen, MLAs and the state ministers will bear
fruits and not lost forever.
