Folks, A bestselling book: Tony D'Souza's: 'Whiteman'
21 May: Arizona Republic. Excerpts of book review: The chapters in this wonderfully written first novel easily stand alone as stories. Some have been published in the New Yorker, Playboy and elsewhere. Their narrator is Jack Diaz, an idealistic young man from Chicago who has come to Africa . D'Souza makes humor, danger and chaos occupy the same page like old friends, and his characters speak with a musical cadence that brings them alive. His stories are at least partly autobiographical: He spent three years in Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer. http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/ae/articles/0521newandnotable05 21.html Tony's father, Walter, was born in Bjapi village near Mangalore in 1942 and married his mother, a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Karnataka in 66-68. Tony was born in Chicago, lives in Florida, has visited Goa a number of times and would like to learn Konkani.
