At a time where the crime barometer is on a steep
ascending mode, an independent police force would have
been a solace. But with political interference in the
selection, promotion and transfer of our law
enforcement officers, the police are obviously unable
to deliver.
There should be an ongoing effort to instil discipline
in the police cadres and minimal, if not zero
tolerance towards indiscipline and misconduct.
In Mumbai, rank indiscipline in the force is a matter
of concern as the law keepers have turned out to be
law breakers.
The Mumbai as many as 42 police men have been booked
for various offences in 2005 alone. From forgery,
cheating, tampering of evidence and impersonation, to
thefts, dacoity, rash driving, outraging the modesty
of a woman, assault, attempt to murder and murder,
these 42 policemen have outstandingly excelled in it
all.
