I really do not see why such big issue is being made on the term "Continental Portugal". Our Madeira and Azores brothers/sisters refer to us, living on the mainland as "Continentais". And they themselves have a special statute and benesses because of their "Insularidade". It appears as though to the usual "lusophobians" Portugal is just landscape with Lisbon for capital.
