49 foreigners own land in coastal areas of Bardez itself! - The tourist have not only become owners of land but have also completed the mutation process. - GT revealed that the Bardez mamlatdars office has executed these 49 mutations cases of foreigners following sale deed registrations during the last few years. - Most of them have been executed in the coastal area of Anjuna, Assagao, Candoim, Arpora and Siolim villages. - There are 3 cases, the foreigners have not disclosed their nationality. - Foreigners have purchased the properties including ancestral houses and the total amount could run into crores of rupees. - Prperties have been bought either to run businesses and to use as their redidential houses. - Aleast 10-12 properties have been purchased by the foreigner in the name of foreign-based companies. - In all 13 properties have been purchased in Anjuna, seven in Candolim, six each in Assagoa and Arpora-Nagoa, five in siolim, four in Saligao and other palces from Bardez taluka. (It is also understood that 50% of the above owners are from England and amongst others includes Italy, Israel, Holland, France, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, UAE.) In another startling incidence, an area admeasuring about 20,000 square metres at Temwda, Morjim has been purchased by two foreigners and mutation executed withouth the knowledge of tenants who tilled the land for decades. About 14 tenants were now fighting a case before the deputy collector, Pernem to get mutation declared null and void. Tenants have suspected a racket involved in land dealing in the coastal areas as they never received any notices at the time of mutation process. The notices are in fact issued to care of addresses of a particular party in Bardez and Salcette areas who even forged their signatures as based on the acknowledgement received, the Pernem mamlatdar executed mutation process.
