Dear Madam,
Subject: Our appeal for Official Recognition of ROMAN SCRIPT
KONKNNI on par with already recognised Devanagari Script, to save 450 years old
ROMAN SCRIPT KONKNI A
LIVING HERITAGE OF GOANS.
In Continuation to our appeals to you in the past, we wish to bring to your
urgent attention the following facts for careful study and constructive action
to save Congress Party in Goa from ruin:
1. In the last few days, there has been hectic activity in the camp of
citizens striving to secure
Official Recognition for Roman Script Konknni.
Disappointed with the ambivalent attitude of Congress Leaders, particularly
Chief Minister Mr. Pratapsing R.Rane, but determined to continue efforts to
save Roman Script Konknni from extinction, a few Senior Catholic Citizens
approached Mr. Manohar Parrikar, former BJP Chief Minister and present
Opposition Leader, a very cunning strategist with long term goals, with an
appeal to him to assist in moving and securing an Amendment of the Goa, Daman
and Diu Official Language Act, 1987, to modify the stipulation of Konknni
Script, to provide for Official recognition of ROMAN SCRIPT.
2. Mr. Parrikar who does not waste any opportunity to woo Catholic Vote
Bank, particularly Catholics of South Goa, instantly promised the Delegation
that he would try to convince his Party Leaders to agree to BJP moving the
necessary Resolution in the forthcoming Assembly Session for the Amendment of
the Language Act.
3. If Mr. Manohar Parrikar succeeds in the mission, which is almost certain
knowing his hold over his Party, it would sound a death-knell for Congress
Party in Goa.
4. What forced the Senior Catholic Citizens approach Mr. Manohar Parrikar was
the detestable ambivalent attitude of Mr. Pratapsing R. Rane, Congress Chief
Minister. Though several MLAs have promised to support Roman Script, they
expressed that Mr. Rane has to take the lead in the matter, discuss the issue
in a Cabinet Meeting, and he should propose the required RESOLUTION in the
forthcoming Assembly Session. But Mr. Rane is not committing !!
5. At one stage recently, Mr. Rane reportedly told a Delegation that if
High Command, meaning, you, madam, ask him to do it, he will do it.
THEREFORE IF YOU WANT TO DENY Mr. MANOHAR PARRIKAR THE STICK TO BEAT CONGRESS
PARTY IN GOA, YOUR ACTION IS VERY URGENTLY NEEDED.
Would you do it today, madam? We are supporters of Congress Party,
Catholics by and large are staunch supporters of Congress Party; but seeing the
inaction and uncooperative attitude on the part of Congress Party Leaders, MLAs
and Chief Minister, over the life and death issue of mother-tongue, they were
compelled to approach Mr. Manohar Parrikar. The mood of Senior Catholic
Citizens at the moment is such that they are willing to approach the devil
himself to get the particular legitimate task done.
If Mr. Manohar Parrikar takes on himself to see that Roman Script Konknni is
granted Official Recognition, naturally it would pave the way for large
segments of Catholics to shift loyalty to BJP.
Mr. Manohar Parrikar is willing to use any method and all means to snatch
power, and once he gets political power, he would systematically work to
convert Goa into a RSS laboratory, just like what Mr.Mody has done in Gujarat.
Would you permit such a crisis to overtake Goa?
We appeal to you, Madam, to kindly telephone Mr. Rane upon reading this
letter, and ORDER him to announce Congress Partys decision to move the
Resolution in the forthcoming Assembly Session and to grant Official
Recognition to Roman Script Konknni.
We are sending you with a separate letter copies of our Final Appeal Report
to President, Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, and we request you to talk to Home
Minister to do the needful from New Delhi also.
We wait your immediate actions, and remain,
