Dear Eddie, Greetings to you too - I do not know if your "intriguiging" question contributed to the hot air here, but I did notice that there was serious hot air recently in London - so much so that Ken Livingstone was trying to locate a method of pouring some 'water down the tube'.
In these parts of the world, we generate our own hot air, thank you - though I must confess that most (not all) of our hurricane material comes from West Africa..... that too from Cabo Verde ! (That should be of interest to the proverbial Lusophobes) I like your definition of "Who is a Goan", and honestly find it to mean just what The Goan Forum article states. The only difference - the article is long winded, but you are succinct and to the point. That is the advantage of being the absolute English gentleman that you are (:-) I understand that you deliberately chose not to ask about 'Britain for the British' but instead 'England for the English'. Unfortunately, unless England has a Parliament of it's own (even a Legislative Assembly like even little Goa has), all that talk about England, will only be reserved for cricket, football at al..Nada mais. The rest would not only be patronising, but also painful. Ibuprofen anyone? As always, Good wishes to you and your family. (:-) jc WHO ARE TRUE GOANS TGF January 9, 2002 http://www.colaco.net/1/truegoans.htm =============================================== -----Original Message-----(excerpted) From: Eddie Fernandes You are quite right to raise the question of definitions. I have visited the Goa Forum website and found your definition of a Goan to include: "Erstwhile non-Goans including the labour force from the surrounding States who have contributed to Goa, and have made Goa their home both physically and emotionally. They have given their heart and sweat to Goa." Quite frankly I feel that painfully patronising. What is my definition of a Goan? Answer: Anyone who has roots in Goa. I deliberately chose not to ask about Britain for the British but instead England for the English please visit "NEW" on The Goan Forum at http://www.colaco.net _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [email protected] http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org
