The reason Gandhi had no problem with caste was his desire that (Indian)
society should be based on DUTY AND SERVICE (SEVA) rather than on the (modern)
concept of RIGHTS AND WANTS. Hence with MG's model (old Indian social model),
it did not matter that your duty and seva was predetermined at birth and what
societal level one was born into. This was all part of a large plan of of life
(cycle) and reincarnation.

The modern model is based on individual RIGHTS. Every one is guranteed those
same RIGHTS by constitution and law. And the government should guarantee them.
If one lives in the west, some believe the government should also guarantee
"the wants". Many Goans think that way too. :=))
Kind Regards, GL

Mahatma Gandhi tends to be over-rated in the West. Not many realise that
while Gandhi had strong views *against* the untouchability involving the
lowest-of-the-low in the Indian caste hierarchy (or outside of it), he didn't
have any problem with the caste system itself.
