Mr. Renoir I agree with you in all you have said, including the collapse of
Mandovi bridge, and that our Govt does not run on brains, but rather on auto
pilot.
In addition to what you have said here is what I feel about this whole
situation:-
1. In the first place Govt. should investigate the people who were handling
this Zuari project, such as Minsters, Govt Engineers, Coordinators,
Sub-Contractors, and who had sanctioned the project.
Gamon India had built this bridge, everything built has a guarantee from the
builder , is Gamon India brought to the task? I don't think so, because behind
this there will be many Ministers involved, but they must be made to answer.
Fall of the bridge:- Possiblities are that the sub contractors competed
Ministerial bunglow projects with material supplied for the construction of the
bridge, material such as cement and steel sold by contractors at a cheeper rate
to other construction projects in the area, possible that the material used for
the bridge is of inferior quality, and not as specified in the blue prints.
2. Its true that our Govt. does not run on brains, but on auto pilot, because
most of our Ministers from Goa to Delhi are not signatories but thumb stampers,
if you have money and have passed only 8th std you can be MLA in INDIA ONLY,
and then to feed you with information you are looking for a PA who has a
masters degree, and who gets that PA job? Its an outsider probably a malyalee.
In such a situation how can a 8th std passed MLA decide the fate of such a huge
project? Here he is only a puppet on a string because somebody else makes all
the decissions for him, and squeeze the poor. In such cases these people must
be stoned in public.
Yes the media can take this as a challange, only if the ministers involved
let you publish the truth, in the past many have had a tough time publishing
the truth and faced serious consequences, lets see how far the media can get
this time.
Best Wishes.

As I sit before my computer and read the news pertaining to the main
arteryto link South Goa with North Goa namely the "Zuari Bridge"I just feel
more& more disgusted reading the matter. It is not the closure of the
Zuaribridge that boggles my mind but rather as to how & why the bridge
cannot continue to sustain itself for the purpose it was built.
Crores were spent in commissioning this bridge & more crores were still
spent to repair & rectify faults in its structure. How does one justify this
expenditure?Building a house for 5 lakhs & then spending 4 lakhs to
repair it , does this make any logic?.
We have seen so much of the tax payers money get blown on projects like
these & yet the Government of the day keeps squeezing the poor citizen
more & more.
I can point to each & every major project undertaken by our Government
& not a single project will stand the test of time. Look at the Mandovi
bridge, it collapsed killing innocent people, look at the Hospicio Hospital in
Margao..the OT theatre is no longer a OT but a death trap, look at the
state of Kala academy after all the crores were spent on its makeup for the
International Film festival, look at the water pipe lines, half the
time they do not supply water but just suffering to the common men, look at
the state of our former Goa medical college , look at our roads in the
monsoons, (the only project that has stood up is the konkan railway
bridge over the Zuari but that again is a matter of time) the quality of work
speaks for itself ....in comparison to all this now look at every
ministers house, look at the road that runs in front of his house, look at the
lighting in front of his house. Everything to a standard isn't it?
The projects are necessary for our economic development, the projects
are necessary to boost the status of Goa as a model state but in the guise
of nothing other then Corruption & self gain.
There is no project that will go through in the system unless a major
chunk of the profit margin is shared with a minister. Given this scenario how
does one expect to get quality work administered or projects that will stand
the test of time?
Can anyone bare to challenge this statement? well If there is someone,
they are not living in the real world. They are still living in dream land.
The Government now puts out tenders for a new parallel bridge to run
along the existing Zuari bridge, well what guarantee can the Government give
that this bridge will hold strong for years to come without a crack? How
blind is the entire system as not to notice projects in the western world that
stand the test of time? How many times do we hear of a bridge or a major
project breakdown in the western world?
It's unfortunate that our Government does not run on brains but rather
on an auto pilot which is fed with information & tactics how to milk the poor
common men and make life as miserable as possible for him in the guise
of economic development.
It's time now all these areas are exposed & people know the truth. I
hope the media can take this as a challenge.
