Dear Madam,
Kuwait Konknni Kendr is a Kuwait based Goan Association formed by the
expatriate Goan community in Kuwait a quarter of a century back. KKK is
actively involved in the promotion of Goan language Konkani and thru it the
promotion of Goan culture, tradition, history and everything that is
connected with Goa. We along with the majority of the Goans spread all over
the World including in Goa follow the ROMAN SCRIPT for Konkani. When
Konkani was recognized as an official language of Goa, due to some mischief
purposely done by some interested persons and interested parties, Roman
script was ignored and Devanagri only given recognition. This was the great
mistake done that time and because of this we the entire Goan Christian
community who are the followers of Roman script Konkani are put into
unnecessary inconvenience and enormous difficulties in diverse ways. This
injustice done to us is required now to be corrected by officially according
equal status to Roman Script Konkani also so that both the scripts are
brought on par with each other of course without altering the current status
of Devanagri. By denying due recognition to Roman Script, all the official
facilities and governmental quotas in every field to Roman Script Konkani
followers, predominantly Christian community, are denied. In this way one
community is neglected while the other community promoted. Amongst the
Konkani people in Goa, Roman Script followers are in overwhelming majority.
Their interest should also be protected.
We at Kuwait Konknni Kendr from Kuwait are asking only recognition for Roman
script Konkani on par with Devanagri and to get this request of ours
fulfilled, we need your assistance since you can play a positive role in
this direction by using your enormous influence in the Congress Party
circle. We are positive and certain that you will do the justice for the
Roman Script Konkani followers.
