Expressing concern over the acute shortage of space to house the dead at Hospicio, members wondered why the non-functioning morgue unit atop T B hospital is not put to use. When Dr Nashnolkar - who attended the meeting on behalf of Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr Ruando D'Sa - remarked that mortuary unit has suffered a technical defect, members wanted to know why the unit has not been repaired till date when people of South Goa are inconvenienced by space constraints at the existing mortuary. One member called for a detailed probe into the purchase of the 12-unit, expressing surprise how a one-year old unit can just go dead. Meanwhile, the Hospital Management Committed meeting chaired by Chairman Dr Lanfred D'Costa has decided to seek an appointment with the Health Secretary to clarify the status of the Committee vis-a-vis hospital functioning. It was also decided to form a society as per the guidelines set by the Union Health Ministry. Refering to the resolution adopted by the Hospicio Visiting Committee requesting the governemnt to keep either the Visiting committee or the Management committee, members said the Visiting Committee cannot take such a decision.
