The Ribandar Citizens Action Committee has today
hailed the Goa Governments right decision to abandon
the proposal to set up a garbage disposal plant in
their neighborhood at Bainguinim.
The people had rightly opposed the project as it was
proposed in the vicinity of an upcoming residential
Ribandar and a heritage area of Old Goa inspite of the
area being a settlement zone.
Reminding the government that the people of Ribandar
had been for years demanding projects like a football
stadium and a community hall, the committee has warned
the government not to ever again attempt to use
Ribandar as a dumping ground for Goas problems.
Lauding the Transport Minister Pandurang Madkaikar and
Deputy Speaker Mrs. Victoria Fernandes for having
firmly opposed the project the committee has also
thanked the residents of Ribandar for having in
conjunction and coordination with the residents of
neighboring Old Goa, Chimbel, Merces and Santa Cruz
panchayats led by their Sarpanches strongly opposed
the disposal of Goa's garbage at Bainguinim.
