Dear Rene Barreto, The World Goa Day began at the turn of the Millenium as an idea in one mind transmitted to others via email, phone and personal communication. An event was organised in London-UK and in Mhapsa-Goa in the very first year on 20 August, 2000. I am happy to have been associated with the event to mark the day in Goa. I have before me the The Constitution[ Seventy-first Amendment ] Act,1992 whereby Konkani was included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution on 20 August, 1992 during the tenure of S.B.Chavan as the Home Minister. The operative words are simple " the existing entry 7 shall be re-numbered as entry 8 and before the entry 8 as so re-numbered, the entry "7.Konkani." shall be inserted." [see http://www.constitu tion.org/ cons/india/ tamnd71.htm ] Few words; momentous achievement! You have chosen your World Goa Day well. Konkani is the world for Goa. World Goa Day brings people of Goan origin and of the Konkan region together and strengthens the bonds of friendship and kindred spirit. An 80 year old relative of mine helped lead the event in Houston-USA in 2004. It brought people together. Young Constatino was about a quarter of that age when he led the WGD in Lisbon. Another huge success. The same is the case all over the world. The more we are together, the happier we will be.Together Everyone Achieves More.
