Dear Mario,
The simplicity of your argument baffles me. Are you
saying that capital, labour and resource move freely
totally unfettered by intervention? Is it not
intervention when Bernanke fiddles with interest
rates. Unfettered the economy would experience
pendulous swings between deflation and boom.
Are you by chance saying that to respond to demand for
trees one must fell the Andean rain forest
indiscriminately? Are you saying OPEC never curtails
the supply of oil but drills to meet world demand?
I've just given you three instances in which
governments protect capital and resource. Why? Because
it's in their interests to do so.
When you say, labour must be allowed to meet the
wage-rate determined entirely by market forces, you
are saying it is not in your interests to protect
labour.
