Only 7 of 100 Goans evacuated: Eduardo

PANJIM, JULY 28 — The Commissioner for NRIs Eduardo Faleiro today said
that after making enquiries with the Indian Embassy in Lebanon it has
been found that out of the approximate 12,000 Indians in Lebanon
around 100 are Goans and approximately seven Goans have been evacuated
from Lebanon so far.
Speaking to Herald, Faleiro said the Indian Embassy in Lebanon has
informed him that around 1,859 Indians have been evacuated from
Lebanon during the three evacuation operations on July 21, July 25 and
July 27. He said that the Embassy has informed him that air flights to
Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi have already transported the Indians who
have been evacuated in the third phase of evacuations.
Some of the evacuees are from Punjab, Tamil Nadu while nearly 700 are
from Chennai, said Faleiro. Very few of the evacuees are from Kerala
and Goa, according to Faleiro.
Reliable sources also informed Herald that around three Goans
evacuated from Lebanon arrived in Goa earlier this week. It is learnt
that the three Goans who arrived in Goa on July 25 are currently
residing at Taleigao, Calangute and Goa Velha.
