Dear all, First of all ... a big Xabash to the organisers of ViVA Goa 2006. It must have taken a humongous effort to put this one together. You guys did well and did it magnificently. It was good to see a ton of Goans in Toronto, despite the sweltering heat, coming together to have a gracious time together.
The music was good and the senior couple (I believe...a former GOA Prez and his wife) who were dancing together ...were great sports. For Ema, me and Lynette it was an extra special treat. It was also a happy coincidence that our trip to Toronto was at the same time as Viva Goa. Out original plan was to spend a few hours with Ben and Marinella Antao, and share a tete a tete with GoaNet Sensorer i.e. Bosco de Mello, a future 'convert' of Gilberto i.e. Kevin (and his wife Lisette), and well known author and song writer Silviano Barbosa (and his wife Sara). Eventually, we met a ton of folks we knew - many from Velim. Tony Fernandes was there and the pun-ny "Aunty" was there too. Missed Eugene Correia - he was busy with soccer ...was it Bogmalo that he was supporting? Certainly wanted to take a picture in front of the (parking) sign 'Reserved for Eugene Correia'.....but didn't. Met a good number of people who said hello to Rene Baretto. A couple asked me what the deal was between Fred Noronha and me. But then, I don't reveal my 'deals' (:-) The topic of Ben Antao's book "Penance" came up...... so did the "un-put-down-able" bit in the Annabelle Colaco review. Did not comment myself about the book. Wouldn't be fair for me to comment about a book without reading it. Started reading the book while waiting at Toronto airport for the 3 hour flight back to Nassau. Must say this about the (nearly half) I have read thus far: It is certainly "un-put-down-able". But please don't take my word for it - I am thoroughly biased towards Ben and his effort .... as I should be. After all, Ben is a good man and a great friend. Please form your own opinion. Penance is available at all fine Book Stores in Goa. Back at the Viva Goa fair ......Aone TorontoGoan said ...as if in surprise (wonder why) ....YOU are the Jose Colaco who upsets Fred Noronha? I think he believes that this "contra tu" is a big set up......Perhaps. Perhaps not. Tried very hard to mingle incognito ...but Lisette Saldanha recognised me ....and Bosco escaped the 'ride'. What a pity. Later, Ben played an extremely gracious host to a lovely Desi dinner - Bosco was there too. What did we talk about? Won't tell you. As expected, we reached our hotel at 11 pm for a 10pm post dinner appointment - Bosco was kind enough to drop us back. The drive back was an excellent opportunity to chat and have a laugh. Later than late ...it was our pleasure to meet briefly with the deSouzas from Brisbane who were visiting Toronto at the same time. All in all ....a very happy trip for us ....Thanks very much to Ben, Marinella and Bosco for the few hours of graciousness & laughter we spent together. Back in Nassau now ...time to return to work. much love jc ==== Rene Baretto wrote: <Please join me in wishing Goans in TORONTO a great * VIVA GOA * celebration - on the 29th July 2006.
