Since Aug 20 is almost upon us, a quick possibility for this year to make WGD
meaningful: Jose
Colaco suggested a few months ago that WGD could remember/celebrate Abbe Faria
this year, his
250th anniversary.
I would urge Goan organizations to go to the website created by Dom Martin at
http://www.abbefaria.com/ and:
1. Sign the petition as it can still get the Indian authorities to commemorate
Abbe Faria with a
stamp.
2. Print Abbe Faria's bio as a flyer and distribute to those in attendance or
in the newsletter.
3. Perhaps have a discussion about the man.
4. It may be too late to purchase the video from Cecil Pinto/Isabel Santa Rita
Vas, otherwise that
could be shown. I am assuming the video is available for purchase.
This is only a suggestion. Goans could so something similar for any other
noteworthy Goan instead.
Btw, Goa Sudharop remembered Abbe Faria at a function on June 25 this year and
the audience was
very appreciative. Almost everyone came up and said to me that they never heard
of him and were
thankful for the information.
