As fate would have it, there were no lifeguards in the two beaches, as lifeguards in the State are presently on strike. Margao reporter adds: Salcete's silvery beaches claimed two more lives, with an engineering teacher-student duo from Hyderabad drowning off Colva beach. The duo were part of a group of 30 third year B Tech students and two teachers from St Mary's College of Engineering, Hyderabad, who came down to Goa at around 6.30 pm and went to Colva beach.Colva PI Uday Parab said around five students and a teacher ventured into the sea when one student N Murthy (21) lost control and was dragged into the waters. The teacher, Vishnu Vardhan (30), rushed to Murthy's rescue, but was pulled by undercurrents. Local fishermen and others joined the rescue, but could not trace the missing bodies. Mapusa correspondent adds: A 22-year-old student from Haryana was feared drowned in the Arabian sea off Sinquerim. Calangute police said a group of about 32 students from the Haryana Agriculture University had arrived in Goa on a study tour and were put up in a hotel at Margao. On Saturday morning, the group went to Sinquerim on a sight-seeing trip and some students decided to go for a swim.
