Mr Sandip Jacques must be joking, because I havent seen any lifeguard at Benaulim beach for the past 10 years. If the Goa lifeguards go on strike, it doesnt make an iota of a difference in this part of the world. There is an empty lifeguard stand at the beach which is used as a vantage point by visiting tourists. Sometimes the locals use the stand when having their beer and sandwiches. Somebody of the tourism dept. must have made a lot of money while ordering these fibre glass stands to decorate our beaches, some years ago.
Just today, I had to request 4 tourists to get out of the sea, and explain to them that 2 people had drowned in Colva yesterday and another 2 at Varca the day before. Life in Goa goes on, the drownings continue unabated........ regards, Gilbert Menezes > Message: 2 > Date: Sun, 13 Aug 2006 16:10:34 +0530 > From: Goacan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: [Goanet] Tourists warned not to venture into the sea in Goa > To: Egoanet <[email protected]> > Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 > > ----------------------------------------------------------------- > Do GOACAN a favour, circulate this email to your > family members, relatives, neighbours and friends. > Help others be BETTER INFORMED, > The time is come for the people of Goa > to ORGANISE not AGONISE !! > ---------------------------------------------------------- > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > Documented by Goa Desc Resource Centre (GDRC) > Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > ------------------------------------------------------------ > Tourists warned not to venture into sea > ---------------------------------------- > The director of tourism department, Mr Sandip Jacques has appealed > to the tourists and general public not to venture into sea, in view of the > non-availability of sufficient lifeguards on the Goan beaches. > > Mr Jacques has asked the hoteliers, travel agents, tour operators, > to inform their guests not to venture into the sea anywhere in Goa > due to the inability of the department of tourism to deploy sufficient > lifeguards. > _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [email protected] http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org
