Sunith, Yes, I know what Aristo is referring to. In those books and other popular writings both Hawking and Davies have mentioned god in a metaphorical sense, and in many places merely to discuss pre-scientific antecedents to modern cosmology. Both are in fact quite equivocal about their own metaphysical view of the existence or non-existence of a deity. This ambiguity is well represented in Hawking's following quote from "Blackholes and Baby Universes": "One does not have to appeal to God to set the initial conditions for the creation of the universe, but if one does He would have to act through the laws of physics." Regarding the matter of responding to Gilbert, I respond to him because he does not appear to be personally abusive, vicious and malicious towards people who disagree with him. He comes across as a genuine and decent man.
