Dear Sachin, In addition to Frederick's comments about inherent prejudices against the Muslim community, let me shed some light on the assimilation of the Indian NRI into American society. I'm going to take the Indian as a whole because Americans do not distinguish this community along religious lines. That they reserve for the Arabs.
America is predominantly a Caucasian society. A Russian immigrant within two generations will be totally assimilated into mainstream America. Any community of a different colour is forever a minority or immigrant. Given the strong ethnocentricity of the Indian, he is not inclined to assimilate. He socialises with his own type, he shops at Indian stores which cater to his every whim including imported Maggi sauce from India, he eats at Indian restaurants, and so on. The one place he cannot avoid assimilation is the school system but given his keen emphasis on education he doesn't mind sending his children to the best schools available. The lack of assimilation doesn't bother the American-Indian. He is after all the richest ethnic group in America. So while he partakes of America's munificence, he doesn't necessarily want to be part of it.
