I am intrigued by the above assertions of Gilbert. I am listing below a chronology of events initiated by Hitler immediately after coming to power. By definition these events took place in what Gilbert refers to the first half of the Nazi reign. In fact, they took place in the first three years. I would like to ask Gilbert if he thinks that these developments are worthy of anybody's support, and whether he has considered these historical facts in his assessment of the greatness of the Nazis in the first half of their reign. CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS January 30, 1933 appointment of Hitler as Chancellor of Germany February 27, 1933 burning of Reichstag and passing of Reichstag fire decree, which took away many civil liberties and habeas corpus March 1933 passing of the Enabling Act, conferring on the executive full legislative powers and the power to violate the constitution April 1, 1933 boycott of Jewish doctors, lawyers, and shops April 7, 1933 banning of Jews from government jobs (in the Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service) January 30, 1934 passing of the Act to rebuild the Reich, leading to the centralization of power by disbanding the state parliaments and denying the states any sovereign rights and powers June 30, 1934 engaging in the Night of the Long Knives, murdering at least 77 political adversaries and leaders of an independent paramilitary organization who posed a political threat to the Nazi government August 2, 1934 death of President Hindenburg, and consolidation of powers of the president and chancellor under Hitler May 1935 prohibiting of Jews to join the army September 15, 1935 passing of Law for the Protection of German Blood and Honor, banning the marriage of a Jew with non-Jew November 1935 reinforcement of Reich Citizenship Law denying full citizenship to all Jews, including half-Jews and quarter-Jews Cheers, Santosh _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [email protected] http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org
