I do not agree that Rene is a fraud. I have met him a couple of times, spoken to him and emailed many times. But from private emails I know why he has earned the displeasure of some: 1. One reason relates to giving credit where it is due. When people who might not be in the know of things, refer to World Goa Day as his idea or he is the founder, he could have corrected the record. He did not. 2. It is true some Goan organizations no longer celebrate WGD since they are upset they do the hard work and organize the events, while Rene's posts the message and seems to take the credit. I have urged some of them to look past this but I am not sure if they will come back. In fact, that may be one of the reasons why many Goan organizations who used to celebrate WGD no longer do so. 3. For WGD to eventually be successful, it must be seen as a worldwide community event and not a self-publicity, self-congratulations opportunity. I would urge everyone to look beyond personalities and do something for Goa and Goans, whether WGD or some other avenue.
