Connotationally, in this case your time and tide are way awry: In those 
days, pants as you behold them were a rarity exclusive domain of Edwinas & 
their snobish ilk.

Panties, pretty pantaloonish, were "the pants" of mine & your grandfather's
fantasies, not to be beheld, so often Eric-wise, arround ankles but rather 
flying Union-Jackish from clothes' lines in the windows of Chanan-, Hamal-, 
Dabul- & myriad other waddis of Boambay & the "angons" of our villages.

Mario has imortalized quite a few for posterity that are unaware of them in 
the age of string-flimsies.
