We, at South Goa Public Interest Action Group 
(SGPIAG) a registered NGO based in Margao,Salcete,
South Goa District India with jurisdiction, at
present, over the entire South Goa District would like
to bring to the notice of all concern that the
Department of Tourism Government of India has issued a
PUBLIC NOTICE as under:

                PUBLIC NOTICE

The lives of the tourists are very precious. It is our
endeavour and also duty of all concerned to safeguard
the lives of the tourists while in Goa by informing
them of the dangers of swimming/venturing into the
sea.

Public in general/tourists in particular are hereby
given notice that bathing/swimming in the sea during
the monsoon is dangerous.

The Hoteliers of Goa/Travel Agents/Tour Operators are
requested to advise their guests by way of display of
suitable information in their lobbies/offices and
distributing leaflets containing the information on
the subject. They should advise the tourists who come
as FIT's/groups/packages not to venture into the sea
during the monsoons.

We at SGPIAG would also like to add a caution to
tourists visiting the state that to ensure that their
visit to the State remains a memorable event and
especially in view of the continued threat perception
due to the recent events in Mumbai and considering
repeatition of the same terrorist strike in  GOA is
not ruled out as it is an important tourist
destination known world over it is in their own
interests to

 
a)   ensure that they carry alongwith them a VALID
passport/visa, OR an election photo identity card OR
any other valid photo identity card issue by State or
Central Government or recognised institutions of the
State and Central Government, to ascertain their
identity.

b)   ensure that while awailing services of the
hospitality industry they should ascertain for
themselves whether the institutions imparting such
services are registered under the Goa Tourists Trade
Act and Rules thereof.
