The monsoons in Goa are a delight to behold and an excellent opportunity for
photography. With a view to promoting this art form together with the monsoon
season in Goa, GoaPhotogs is organizing the first annual Goa Monsoon Photo
Marathon - a day that promises to be filled with fun and exciting photography.
A photography marathon brings together the elements of a marathon pace,
stamina and a gritty determination - along with the creative aspects of a
photography competition. Participants are required to be at their creative
peak in the face of limited time at hand, battling the elements, heavy traffic
and their own physical exertions in the 9-hour event.
Categories:
There will be the following three categories:
Colour Film
Black & White Film
Digital
How it Works:
The competition will run over a continuous period of 9 hours from 8am to 5pm.
Those opting for the film category will bring one 35 mm film roll. Those
opting for digital category will have to use one memory card (no internal
camera memory will be permitted).
During this period, participants will be given one theme every 3 hours making
up a total of 3 themes over the entire day. Participants will have to shoot
and submit one image for each theme. Since a photo marathon is a test of
stamina and skill, sticking to timing is very important. 3 hours are allotted
for each theme. Those arriving later than the stipulated 3 hours for each
theme will be disqualified for the theme for which they arrived late.
At the end of the day film participants will submit their roll containing
images shot during the day to the organisers at the venue. The rolls will be
processed by GoaPhotogs. Those shooting digital will have to download 3 images
for each of the three themes announced during the day onto the computers
provided at the venue. A time of 3 minutes will be allotted to each
participant for this purpose. No manipulation etc will be permitted on the
downloaded images.
During the time the rolls are being processed, we will have a group "evening
out" at Ernesto's (Club Vasco da Gama, Panjim). Here the images shot in
digital format will be projected for viewing by the entire group.
Later in the day, on receipt of the processed rolls, participants shooting
film will be permitted to choose their three best shots to be submitted for
judging.
Exhibition:
An exhibition of the best photographs will be held, the venue and dates of
which will be announced.
