Regards,
Alfred Sobrinho
Secretary TIPCA
TIPCA Houston (Texas India Pakistan Catholic Association) celebrated Goa Day
2006 on Saturday, August 26. It was a day filled with fun, games, music,
singing and lip smacking goan food. The venue was Lost Creek Park in Sugar
Land, TX (a Houston suburb). We TIPCAites dressed in island attire and lunch
was potluck with each family bringing their favorite goan dish. Some early
thunderstorms did not dampen the enthusiasm. We numbered close to a 100 people,
representing the Goan diaspora from India, Pakistan and Africa who have made
Houston home.
Cressy DaCosta shared her childhood memories of our beautiful motherland Goa
and what makes Goa and the Goans so unique. It had many of us reminiscing with
nostalgia of our visits to Goa and thinking of our own villages. Maria
Mussenden put together a quiz on Goa that had us scratching our heads to come
up with the correct answers. The kids enjoyed themselves on the playground
rides, soccer, badminton. Victor Rodrigues and Terence D'souza brought out
their guitars and the music and singing filled the Lost Creek picnic pavilion.
We commend TIPCAs senior statesman Ligorio Soares, Debbie Lobo (Entertainment
Secretary), Darrel D'costa (Youth Director) and Michael Lobo TIPCA's President,
who were instrumental in making Houston’s Goa Day 2006 celebration a grand
success.
Viva Goa.
