HEA GHARACHIM DHARAM BONDH A gripping tale How evil can shrivel to its lowest ebb and set ablaze lives of happy families were pragmatically exemplified in Laurente Pereiras Konkanni tiatro, Hea Gharachim Dharam Bondh staged last Friday, Sept. 1, 2006.
One family consists of facher Baltazar (Roseferns), his daughters Cynthia (Felcy) and Sonia (Olga Vaz) and son Trevor (Pascoal Rodrigues). Trevor is habitually in inebriation state causing mental anguish to the family. When Cynthia gets married to Dylan (Sylvester Vaz), a sort o platonic relationship flourishes between Dylan and Sonia. Alas! It is this relationship that later on, fends for the devil incarnate Vicky (Anil Pednekar) to unleash his evil machinations. In fact, Sonia is in love with Cliff (Adrian Goes) but, Cliff is reluctant to marry unless, Somias family gives 2 lakhs in dowry as demanded by his family. Sonia is crestfallen but, Dylan consoles her and assures to arrange the 2 lakhs. Dylan uses his raison dêtre with his wife Cynthia and mama (Clara) to part with their gold ornaments. But Dylan obtains only one lakh from the sale of ornaments and, a date is fixed for the wedding. But on the wedding day, Sonia scuttles back from the church, wailing and moaning, accompanied by best-man Kenneth (Laurente Pereita) because Cliff fails to show up to the nuptials as the balance of one lakh remains unpaid. The vile Vicky who secretly desires Sonia, now sows the seeds of hatred, jealousy, doubt, et al, to tarnish the reputation of the families. First, be incites Cliff into rage and revenge with false rumors that Sonia loves Dylan. Next, Vicky turns to Cynthia and mama Clara and, almost deceitfully succeeds in making them believe that Dylan and Sonia are having physical relationship. A grave misunderstanding grips the family, until at last; Dylan evocatively reveals the truth about his unsullied relationship with Sonia. The story then takes a new twist when Cynthia dies o leukemia leaving behind her infant son. While Sonia laments her life of ignominy, mama Clara tries to induce Dylan to marry Sonia, at least for the sake of the infant. Dylan firmly argues against mamas persuasion but finally relents and, decides to propose to Sonia. Meanwhile, as the old adage goes, evil begets evil, Vicky gets infected with leprosy and one day, when he runs into Cliff, confesses his evil plans and wicked desires to the great indignity of Cliff. Cliff now all repentant and remorseful dashes to the house of Sonia to seek clemency and ask her hand in marriage. Here the tiatro ends on a suspenseful note as Cliff is shocked to behold Sonia, already married not to Dylan but, to the best-man Kenneth. Baltazar then warns Cliff never again to visit the house with these words, to quote, Hea Gharachim Dharam Bondh The visiting artistes Felcy, Olga, Roseferns and Pascoal Rodgrigues have given admirable performances in the parte but, it is Anil Pednekar who steals the thunder. Being assigned, a fiendish role with abysmal anatomy, yet, with his body language, dialogue delivery and facial expressions Anil straddles the stage like a colossus. Kuwait based artistes in the main parte namely Querobin, Philip, Mario de Majorda and Manuel de Santa Cruz have played their best roles but, it is Clara, Sylvester and Adrian who take the honors. Comedy interactions between Tanya (Querobin), Tanyas dad (Mario), Duming (Agostinho) and Vicent Xavier (Philip) were laudable but, it was the comedy scene in the Home for Old that virtually created laughter explosions. Another highlight with fascinating audio visual effect was the illusion of a luminous cross against dark ambiance when a fluorescent flower wreathe floats from the crest of the cross and rests on the head of Sonia (Olga) in a symbolic sign of Divine intercession. The side show was credible but, it was the junior trio kings from Goa, Aliston-Royston-Frankie that rocked the stage with their amazing songs drawing thunderous applauses. A great stage future awaits these talented lads. Dialogues were superb, particularly, the scene in which an intoxicated Trevor scoffs Cliff for flouting the truth. Maestro Shahu, as usual, shines with his musical score. Stage setting was superb, lights and acoustics great and the tiatro too was engrossingly enjoyable till the end By Sunny Nazareth __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
